Fire damages 38 houses in Molo, Iloilo City

THIRTY-EIGHT houses were damaged by the fire incident at the district of Molo on September 10.

According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), the fire took place at 7:23 p.m. at Barangay Zone 1A-Boulevard in Molo district and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) declared fire out at 10:19 p.m.

All units of BFP Iloilo City Fire Stations with the cooperation of FedFire and ICAG and fire stations of Zarraga, Oton, Sta. Barbara, San Miguel and Pavia responded to the incident.

The Iloilo City mayor Jose Espinosa immediately visited the area to check the situation of the victims.

Based on the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO), there were 32 destroyed and two damaged houses with 35 families affected.

Another area is the Barangay West Habog-Habog, Molo with two destroyed and two damaged houses with four families affected.

The BFP Iloilo City Fire Station recorded six patients with zero casualty. The estimated total damage amounted to P1,200,000.

As of Tuesday, September 11, the CSWDO has provided food, drinking water and clothes. The CDRRMO continues to monitor the evacuees’ situation and provided two ambulances while City Health Office was tasked for the medical and health assistance.

Evacuation centers identified are located at the Barangay Zone 1A-Boulevard’s gym, chapel, conference room and day care center and “outside evacuation” for the Barangay West Habog-Habog.

The city government also calls the fellow Ilonggos for more provisions of blankets, sleeping mats, hygiene kits, potable water and financial assistance that is currently on the process.

Recently, the Philippine Red Cross Iloilo delivered food assistance and the Department of Social Welfare and Development with Assistant Secretary Rhea Peñaflor donated 42 box of dignity kit comprised of towels, soap, alcohol, blanket, towel, toothbrush, underwear, slippers and flashlight.
