Gacad: Perspectives

ONE morning, a man woke up and looked at the mirror. And he saw that he only had three hair strands on his head. He broke into a smile and said, “Gee, I think I'll braid my hair today.” And that's what he did and he had a wonderful day.

The next morning, he woke up and looked at the mirror. And he saw that he only had two hair strands on his head. He smiled and said, “I think I'll part my hair in the middle today.” And that's what he did and he had a wonderful day.

The next morning, he woke up and looked at the mirror. And he saw that he only had one hair on his head. He smiled and said, “Hmm, I think I'll wear my hair in a ponytail today.” And that's what he did and he had a wonderful day.

The next morning, he woke up and looked at the mirror. And he saw that he had NO hair on his head. He smiled and said, “Thank you God! I don't have to fix my hair today!” And that's what he did and he had a wonderful day.

We can choose to be happy people. It is not because we don't have problems (we all have problems!). People can decide to be happy no matter what problems they have.

Nothing can put you down. Nothing can crush you. Nothing can take away your hope. The Bible says, If God is for you, who can be against you?

Pagasa expects Typhoon “Mankhut” to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday. Once in the PAR, it will be called “Ompong.” Pagasa said Ompong is likely to bring rains over the whole Luzon and other areas in Visayas and Mindanao. According to the weather bureau's advisory, the typhoon is threatening Northern Luzon and may traverse the Cagayan - Batanes area this Saturday.

Cyclone Warning Signal (TCWS) # 1 may be raised as early as tonight. The typhoon may strengthen the Southwest Monsoon bringing scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Western Visayas and Palawan starting Thursday. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 170 km/hr near the center, gustiness of up to 210km/hr and is moving in a westward direction at 25km/hr.

Let's brace ourselves for another set of wet and stormy next few days. Let's not forget the basics and the essentials (like candles and matches, rain gear, flashlights with extra batteries, canned food, cleared canals and drains, etc.) to prepare for the forecasted weather disturbance. A little thing can go a long, long way.

Some news reports can be alarming, sometimes outright irresponsible. Whatever is said, make sure to verify received info and act with dispatch. Nothing beats preparedness. Preparedness is readiness.

Prayer will help. Let us all be one in praying for safety for everyone.
