DENR leads tree planting at Mt. Arayat

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Provincial Government of Pampanga spearheaded a simultaneous tree planting activity as part of the province’s celebration of the 118th Anniversary of Philippine Civil Service.

According to Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) information officer Don Reich de Dios, the event was spearheaded by the Pampanga Field Office in partnership with the Civil Service Commission and several national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs) within Mt. Arayat’s protected area.

NGAs that participated sent delegates from the respective regional offices.

Pampanga Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Officer Arthur F. Punsalan, under the advice of Gov. Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda, led the representatives from the municipal governments of Arayat, Candaba, Floridablanca, Magalang, Macabebe, Sasmuan, Sta. Ana and Sto. Tomas.

Delegates from the water districts of the City of San Fernando, Masantol, Macabebe, and Angeles City joined the occasion.

Penro Pampanga, through the management of OIC-PENR officer Forester Laudemir S. Salac, had allotted a national greening program (NGP) site with a total area of 150 hectares.

In addition, Penro Pampanga also provided some 2,000 Narra and 1,000 Paitan seedlings while the Municipal Government of Arayat, through Mayor Emmanuel “Bon” Alejandrino, offered 1,000 Guyabano seedlings.

“Definitely, our tree growing activity will not be in vain. The plantation that we have just established today as part of our role as civil servants will surely have a high survival rate because, according to our elders, Apung Sinukuan constantly pours rain to Mt. Arayat whenever we initiate tree planting,” Alejandrino said.
