HUNDREDS of athletes from Cebu will leave for Baguio City today for the Batang Pinoy National Championships, which is set to open on Sept. 15 at the Baguio Athletic Bowl with about 7,000 athletes and delegates.

The 350-man Cebu City Niños delegation leaves first thing this morning via plane to Manila while the Cebu Province’s 170-man squad will travel in the afternoon. The athletes will then take a bus from Manila to Baguio City.

Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City, meanwhile, will depart from Cebu tomorrow. Stephen Jumao-as of the Mandaue City Sports Commission said that the local government unit of Mandaue City will send 70 delegates.

Mandaue City delegates will be landing in Clark, Pampanga, while those from Lapu-Lapu City will be in Manila.

The national meet for Under-15 athletes organized and sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will take place on Sept. 15 to 21 in Baguio City and nearby La Trinidad, Benguet.

The Niños will look to assert their dominance anew and duplicate the superb performance in the last edition of the Batang Pinoy National Championships two years ago in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, where they landed on top of the ranking with 41 gold medals, 25 silvers and 26 bronzes.

Cebu Province also had a good showing in the last edition with 17 gold medals, 17 silvers and 17 bronzes. Cebu Province is aiming to level or even get better results this year.
