Pampanga Masonic Lodge No. 48 marks 100th anniversary

THE Pampanga Masonic Lodge No. 48 is set to commemorate its centennial anniversary which will coincide with its 100th Public Installation of Elected and Appointed Officers for Masonic Year 2018 this September 15, Saturday at Tierra Linda Building the City of San Fernando. The event will be graced by Most Worshipful Grand Master Abraham Tolentino and Centennial Worshipful Master Abel Lingat.

Founded in July 16, 1918 by fifteen brethren from eight different lodges and by the strength of the dispensation, the lodge was able to raise its first five members namely Saturnino David, Pascual Gozun, Candido Hizon, Marciano Ordonez, and Amado Pekson on December 28, 1918.

It was then chartered as the 48th lodge under jurisdiction of then Grand Lodge of the Philippine Islands during the 7th Annual Communications on January 28, 1919 with WB former Pampanga Representative Pedro Abad Santos as Charter Master, Isabelo de Silva (Senior Warden), and Ceferino Hilario (Junior Warden).

Over the course of a century, the lodge has admitted close to over 500 members, some of which are renowned political leaders and notable Kapampangans including former Pampanga Representative, Governor, and Philippine Senator Pablo Angeles y David (Charter Member), delegate to the 1935 Constitutional Convention and builder of the 1st Temple for Pampanga Lodge Jose Gutierrez David (4th WM), and former Pampanga Governor and Senator Sotero Baluyot.

In 2009, the lodge has adopted its new seal following the discovery of an old lodge photo of the brethren in front of their first temple, The General Hizon Temple, at the entrance of which is a square and compass set inside a trapezoid which was considered to represent Mount Arayat, known as the sacred mountain of the Kapampangans.

To date, the lodge proudly holds the distinction as one of the few lodges in the GLP that have conducted the Masonic Rituals in three approved languages: Spanish, English, and Filipino.

As part of its centennial celebration, the lodge, throughout the year, has spearheaded series of charitable events as well as historical and cultural activities that highlights the contribution of Freemasonry in the entire province of Pampanga.
