Classes in CL suspended as country braces for Ompong

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Classes on Thursday, September 13, in all levels in Pampanga and Angeles City have been suspended in anticipation of the onslaught of Typhoon "Ompong" which is expected to bring heavy rains in most parts of the country while other local and provincial government units in Central Luzon have declared class suspensions until Friday.

Acting Governor Dennis Pineda has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels in Pampanga to provide people with adequate time to prepare. Pineda said the preparations of the provincial government are underway for the possible onslaught of Typhoon Ompong starting Friday, September 14.

Earlier forecasts by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) stated that the effects of the typhoon will be felt in Northern and Central Luzon by Friday afternoon.

Pampanga towns have also declared class suspensions for September 14, Friday.

The local government units of Candaba, Macabebe, Masantol, and Minalin have all posted notifications of class suspensions in all levels, public and private at press time. The Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University in Bacolor town will not hold classes on Friday.

Meanwhile, Arayat, Sta. Ana and Sta. Rita towns have declared class cancellations from Thursday until Friday, September 15.

Classes in all levels, public and private have also been suspended in Zambales province for September 14 and 14 with Olongapo City issuing class cancellations for September 13 at press time. Classes in Calumpit, Malolos, Marilao, Meycauayan and Obando in Bulacan province have also been suspended for September 13.

Classes in all levels in Anao, Bamban, Capas, Camiling (afternoon only), Concepcion, La Paz and Tarlac City in Tarlac province were suspended yesterday.

Aurora province has also suspended classes in all levels for public and private schools as well as work in government and private offices on Wednesday and Friday.

Pagasa said that Ompong will pass through Cagayan and by September 15, the eye is expected to be over Batanes having a movement of 25 kilometers per hour with a diameter of 900 kilometers and a radius of 450 kilometers which indicates a wide area of coverage.
