Establishments violate 2 am mandatory curfew

ILOILO City Councilor Joshua Alim seeks to conduct a committee hearing regarding the non-compliance of some establishments to the Executive Order (EO) No. 146-2017 that mandates a 2 a.m. closure.

During the regular session on September 11, Alim said that he received a letter coming from an “anonymous” complainant which tells the imbalance compliance of some establishments to the said EO.

He said on the letter that some establishments were still operating after the directed 2 a.m. curfew.

“According to him, it is very unfair for them to comply with this executive order while the other bars, restaurants, hotels and whatever are enjoying the “exemption” to these executive order,” Alim said.

It was also presented on the session, the photos provided by the complainant for evidence.

The EO No. 146-2017 signed by Mayor Jose Espinosa III covers all bars, night clubs, disco bars, resto bars and other establishments.

Alim stressed that the complainant expressed that other establishments “strictly followed” the EO but not all.

To aid the report, Alim proposed to conduct a committee hearing regarding the issue even if it is “more of executive functions.”

“I think we need to have a serious look on this,” Alim said.

He also pointed out that the police visibility is only focused on the Smallville Complex where most of the establishments, bars and clubs are situated, however, the strict implementation of the order outside the area is lacking.

The councilor said that they will create a proper recommendation to Espinosa after the proposed hearing.

The motion was referred to the committee on police matters headed by Alim for further verification and to create a report to be submitted on the council. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
