EDC Battle of the Brains champion to win P30K

WHICH Negros high school has the brightest students?

We are about to find out today as 10 competing Negros schools face off in the action-packed grand finale to the Energy Development Corporation's (EDC) 2018 Battle of the Brains (BOTB) in Foundation University, Dumaguete City.

On top of bringing home the title as “Positive Energy Battle of the Brains Champions,” this year’s grand winners will also be receiving P30,000 along with gold medals, and a trip to EDC’s 222.5MW Southern Negros Geothermal Project in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

Today's finals is the culmination of a series of quiz bees that engaged the youth of Negros and impressed upon them the importance of striving for a sustainable future.

Last year’s defending champion, Southland College Kabankalan, will be defending their crown from other grand finalists coming from Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School, Riverside College, Inc. Senior High School, Bago City College, Notre Dame of Bago City, Mabinay Science High School, Okiot National High School, Cambagahan National High School, Balugo National High School and Valencia National High School.

Second and third placers will also be receiving P10,000 and P7,000, respectively, with corresponding medals and all participating schools will be receiving certificates.

Now on its third year and with the theme “Renewable Energy for a Brighter Future,” the regional science quiz bee for junior and senior high schools aims to continue spreading awareness on the importance of renewable energy as one of the solutions to fighting climate change.

“The tight competition in all the semi-final rounds is proof of the heightened awareness of our youth on issues related to the environment in this year’s Battle of the Brains,” said Vicente Omandam Jr. senior manager and head of EDC's Reservoir and Project Management Division. “It is clear that the movement to combat climate change has been embraced by our students here in Negros.”

All information and questions throughout the quiz bee have been verified by its panel of expert judges composed of Rodne Galicha, Climate Reality PH’s country manager; former Foundation for Philippine Environment President and former Visayas State University President Dr. Paciencia Milan; and Engr. Rey Maleza from the Department of Energy-Visayas. (PR)
