A RETIRED member of the Philippine Army was arrested in an entrapment operation for sale and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition at Barangay Linao in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Wednesday, September 12.

Police identified the suspect as Harold Amar, 55, of Barangay Su-ay, Himamaylan City.

Superintendent Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said the suspect allegedly sold a government model colt automatic .45 caliber pistol loaded with an ammunition, and a magazine containing five ammunition to a police agent for P3,000.

Guadalupe said the firearm costs P13,000 but he agreed to have the payment on a staggered basis during the transaction.

Police also recovered from him a .9mm caliber black window revolver loaded with five ammunition placed on his motorcycle, the P3,000 marked money, P2700 in cash, and a cellular phone.

Guadalupe said they subjected Amar for entrapment after receiving reports that he is allegedly involved in a gun-running activity.

He is reportedly getting firearms from a source in southern Negros, the city police chief added.

Charges for Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act were already filed on the same day against Amar, who is detained at the police station.
