Suspect killed in drug bust in San Simon town

A SUSPECTED notorious drug personality linked to various crimes was killed after allegedly resisting arrest during a drug bust launched by the San Simon Station Drug Enforcement Unit recently.

This town’s chief of police Chief Inspector Louie Gonzaga said the suspect identified as Alexander Cuneta, a resident of Barangay Cutud, City of San Fernando, was the subject of the drug bust launched in Barangay San Miguel, this town.

During the operation, an undercover agent allegedly bought a sachet of illegal drugs from Cuneta and proceeded to arrest Cuneta but the latter allegedly drew his caliber .38 revolver and fired at the police.

“In the sense of preserving and protecting their own life, our troops retaliated at Cuneta and a shootout ensued which later resulted to the immediate death of our subject personality,” Gonzaga said.

He said that further investigation revealed that Cuneta is also linked to various crimes like carnapping and part crime syndicate engaged in theft activities via akyat-bahay and bukas-kotse.

“We are in the process of counter-checking with other police station in the province regarding the case of Cuneta. But so far, we have already received validated reports that proved his engagements in criminal activities aside from being a drug pusher,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cuneta’s cohort, who was unidentified, managed to flee to the direction of San Luis town using a motorcycle and remains at-large as of yesterday, said Gonzaga.

Confiscated from Cuneta’s possession were 11 sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu), caliber .38 revolver and his personal belongings.
