14 people fall; 3,800 butane canisters seized in Lapu-Lapu raid

FOURTEEN individuals, including a fire brigade volunteer, were arrested when police raided a butane refilling station in Barangay Calawisan, Lapu-Lapu City last Thursday.

The City Intelligence Branch arrested Joven Sohitado, owner of the refilling station and a job-order worker at City Hall, and Alan Amoin, a fire brigade volunteer.

Also arrested were Marben Carungay, Danilo Abarao, Rey Samson, Wilman Piasidad, Cole Samson Jr., Crisanto Tingting, Teodoro Remando, Joel Piasidad, Ramil Tangcomo-an, Edvun Balvez, Daniel Diacosa and Eliezer Cuna.

Authorities seized 3,837 butane canisters, 56 units of liquefied petroleum gas, seven cartridges used to refill butane canisters and P1,627 cash, among others.

Suspects will face complaints for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1865, or the law that penalizes acts involving petroleum products that are inimical to public interest and national security. (Ma. Devorah Taneo, USJ-R intern)
