SWU ends losing streak

AFTER losing their first three games, the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Baby Cobras logged their first win of the season, 43-38, over the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) at the Cebu Coliseum.

The game was neck and neck all the way, before a strong fourth quarter by SWU.

SWU also displayed topnotch defense in the fourth quarter and held DBTC to just six points.

SWU came into the fourth quarter with a 33-32 lead and King Cabansay and Mathew Flores scored back-to-back baskets to make it, 37-32.

Daryll Liston finally ended the Greywolves’ drought by scoring a basket in the 6:32 mark. DBTC was in early foul trouble and sent SWU to the line. Luckily, SWU just hit four of eight free throws.

With SWU up ahead by just three, 41-38, DBTC made two crucial turnovers within the one-minute mark and Dezeo Villanueva sealed the win with a fastbreak in the 25.4-second mark coming off a steal. DBTC had two more opportunities to score but Liston and Joshua Siona missed their shots.

Cabansay led SWU’s balanced scoring with eight, while John Arana added six. EKA
