Palmares & Moises: This connect

M: IT’S easy to be connected these days. We have all the technology to help us do it. But how come there’s still a disconnect? Or how come we never learn to truly connect and understand one another? Is it because that we have too many choices that we are unable to make a choice, or make the right choice? We have a lot of opportunities to do that nowadays yet there is a refusal to link together; to unite, to fix those that are broken, and to strengthen bonds so joined together.

DJ:I thought this has something to do with internet services. Seriously, it is hard to truly connect to the essential when all we want is to follow our preferences. Upon reaching a certain age, life becomes more real to us. Our relationships, for example, are rooted not on form but substance. We desire for deeper, more meaningful relationships, and we realize that the emptiness we feel is something that cannot be filled with material things.

M: Talking about relationships, women want to connect with men not just on the physical level but more importantly on the emotional level. I read a book that says that while women want love, men want respect. We connect on different dimensions but at the end of the day, I believe we all want the same thing—to be with someone who loves us as we are, who understands us and makes us want to become better. We want a relationship that inspires us, but even if it is not always inspiring, we decide to honor our commitment.

DJ: It’s good to be in a relationship that is low maintenance. But life or love is not always low maintenance. The world is said to be a bit more complicated than it used to be. It would be great to be with someone real and who makes us real... someone who keeps us grounded. I think that’s the important thing about connection. We don’t pretend, we show those we care about who we really are and we’re not afraid to be rejected. And even if we are rejected, we learn and we hold on. And we continue to grow, even if it is painful. I think that’s what abiding in love means. Being rooted in faith, hopeful and grateful for all things.
