No ouster plot vs Duterte: US Ambassador

UNITED States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim assured that there is no ouster plot against President Rodrigo Duterte, citing that both countries maintained a strong bilateral cooperation amidst the controversies.

Kim told the media participants of the 10th U.S. Embassy Seminar for Regional Media on Human Trafficking: Promotion of Children, Women, and Workers on September 14 at Hotel Jen Manila that contrary to reports that US plans to unseat Duterte, they continue with their strong coordination with the present administration despite continuous tirades of the top leader.

“I can assure you with great confidence and conviction that there has no effort in the US government, anyone including the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to come up with some efforts to undermine President Duterte’s administration,” Kim said, adding that,

“It really has not affected the cooperation.”

Earlier, he met with Duterte in Malacañang and he bared that they’ve discuss about defense and economic cooperation. Since they have not met for several months, he also presented reports on their efforts in sustaining the good partnership of both countries.

“The US military and Armed Forces of the Philippines continue to enjoy a very strong partnership,” he added.

Kim said the Balikatan exercises between the two countries is continuous. This is focused on mutual defense, counterterrorism, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief to strengthen interoperability and enhance the capabilities of both the US and Philippine armed forces.

Kim, meanwhile, belied reports of any travel ban from Mindanao politicians.

“We have not place any travel restrictions from Mindanao politicians in general,” he said.
