THE top police official in Central Visayas has ordered random and mobile checkpoints following an explosion in General Santos City in Mindanao on Sunday night, September 16.

Chief Superintendent Debold Sinas issued a directive to lower units to include seaports, airports and bus terminals in the monitoring.

He said the intelligence division of Police Regional Office (PRO)- Central Visayas still has to assess the latest bombing in General Santos City before declaring a full alert status.

Police determined that what went off was an improvised explosive device.

Seven persons were wounded. PRO-Central Visayas was placed on full alert on Wednesday, September 12, in preparation for Typhoon Ompong. The status was lifted on Sunday afternoon, September 16.

Sinas urged the public to be vigilant and report to authorities any suspicious-looking individuals or abandoned bags and packages. (KAL)
