Anti-drug operations net 8 persons, P17,000 shabu

EIGHT persons were arrested, while P17,300 worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) were seized in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Monday, September 17.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Fredi Penales, 37; Marilou Rollon, 29; Maryann Indanan; Joliver Arian; Roy Piedad; Henjie Darcera; Jerome Balugay, 31; and Nicanor Denoyo, 34.

Galvez said that Penales, a cellphone technician, and Rollon, a bar tender, were arrested in a drug bust at a boarding house around 3:50 a.m. Sunday, September 16, in the village of Galas, Dipolog City.

The two were arrested by joint City Drug Enforcement Team of Dipolog City and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Galvez said confiscated from Rollon's possession were one medium-size and two small-size sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P10,000 and P500 marked money.

Galvez saidt Indanan was arrested in a drug bust around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, September 17, in the village of Recodo, Zamboanga City.

Seized from Indanan's possession were six sachets of suspected shabu worth P1,200 and P200 marked money.

Galvez said Arian was arrested also in a drug bust around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, September 16, in the village of Sinunuc, Zamboanga City.

Seized from his possession were two sachets of suspected shabu worth P5,000 and P200 marked money.

Galvez said Piedad and Darcera were arrested in another drug bust around 8 p.m. Sunday in the village of Sta. Catalina, Zamboanga City.

Confiscated from them were four small-size sachets of suspected shabu with estimated street value of P1,100 and P200 marked money and illegal drug paraphernalia.

Galvez said Balugay and Denoyo were caught while having a pot session around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in Purok Tubigan in Veterans Village, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Recovered from their possession and control were one unsealed small sachets containing white crystalline granules believed to be shabu and illegal drug paraphernalia.

Galvez said the suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (SunStar Philippines)
