Tell it to Sun.Star: Never again

CHRISTIAN Churches have the moral and mandated obligation to announce what is good and to denounce what is evil in society. In the process, it presents to all and sundry the best alternative to the ways of this world, which is total obedience to God’s will for the human race and building God’s kingdom on earth especially for the poor and oppressed.

For the past three decades, our country has taken pride in the historical achievement of ousting the Marcos dictatorship that brought misery and terror to the majority -- a dictatorship that drew decadent strength from its adherence to the ways of this world shown by its insatiable greed for wealth, power and fame pursued in the most notorious of ways.

The staggering accounts of violations of people’s rights, the looting of public coffers, the insurmountable public debt -- all these belie the myth that the Martial Law era was a “golden” period. Instead, it was all brazen robbery not only of material wealth but also of lives and a possible productive future for the country.

The long years of struggle and sacrifice of those who defied the rule of Martial Law have been the necessary elements in toppling Marcos and removing him and his family from the halls of power. Without this heroic struggle paid by rivers of blood and tears, there would be no People Power at all.

The Marcos’ ruthlessness in power and rapacious greed for wealth had been exposed and categorically declared as such by the courts and the parliament of the streets. Their infamous rule is damned and condemned by a people who till this date detests and abhors their arrogance, abuse and wanton display of sinfulness to God.

In their desire to return to power, remaining members of the Marcos family are slowly yet alarmingly worming themselves back to positions in government through deceit by distorting/revising Philippine history so as to present the Marcos dictatorship as the best thing that ever happened to this country. Quite a number, young and old, have been deceived by these lies.

Using the very loot they stole from the Filipino people to propel themselves back in power, the son and namesake of the dictator, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos Jr., is an inch away from the presidency by running for Vice-President under a fallacious claim that he will save this country from peril and perdition.

It would be the height of our nation’s folly if good Christians in our land will allow the return of evil by giving Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. even just an iota of a chance at capturing the Vice-Presidency.

As believers of the truth that Jesus proclaimed and demonstrated as the will of God, we unite in fighting against this mockery of God's will by preventing Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. from getting even a single vote from us God-fearing Filipinos.

The only correct response is: “Never again!”--By Promotion of Church People’s Response
