THE Iloilo City Council established a resolution requesting Mayor Jose Espinosa III to allot funds for the rehabilitation of the city’s public markets and abattoir for a treatment of its poor state.
The resolution was penned by Councilor Armand Parcon. He pointed out that the public markets and abattoir are abandoned and deteriorated due to its poor quality of facilities and lack of supervision of its management.
Due to the said quality of facilities, it was known that only boilers are operative and these boilers delay the slaughtering process that leads to the vast drop of monthly revenues.
The abattoir and public markets also failed the accreditation of National Meat Inspection Service that guarantees that the meat is safe and not hot meat or “botcha” sold to the public.
With the situation, the council is currently conducting a fact-finding investigation in aid of legislation on the public markets and abattoir.
Parcon said that the stakeholders have the same sentiments when it comes to their observations that made the markets and abattoir to be on its poor state.
The public markets and abattoir identified as revenue producer and as an element to of public service needed by the people for daily needs and it is gradually deteriorating however, there’s a huge budget used to several projects that can be assist the people less. (Carolyn Jane Abello)
