Probe on cop hitting traffic enforcer over traffic violation sought

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar is calling for an investigation and filing of appropriate charges, if necessary, against a policeman who allegedly hit a traffic enforcer over a traffic violation on Tuesday in the vicinity of the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).

Salazar said she will write a letter to Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, to ask for an investigation into the incident.

Salazar has advised the traffic enforcer, Rameses Ablao, to report the incident to the police and file appropriate charges against the policeman identified only as a certain PO1 Ynawat.

Ablao, who personally complained to the mayor after the incident, said that about 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, he saw a car that was “out of the line” at the ZCMC.

He then called the attention of the driver and approached him.

Ablao said the policeman, who was driving the car with his mother, got irked and badmouthed him and challenged him in Tagalog: “Magsumbong ka kahit kanino, kahit sa mayor pa. Wag kang magpakita sa akin.”

(Go tell anyone including the mayor. Don’t you try showing yourself to me.)

The policemen then hit him in the neck which caused him some bruises.

Ablao said he knew he was a police based on his uniform with the name tag PO1 Ynawat. (SunStar Philippines)
