New bus, van terminals soon to rise

TO PROVIDE transport accessibility to commuters, new terminal sites for public land transport vans will soon be established in Toril, Calinan, Bajada, Buhangin, and Agdao areas.

During the City Council's regular session on Tuesday, September 18, Davao City Councilor Conrado Baluran presented the ordinance, which was approved on the third and final reading.

The ordinance stated that public land transport vans with issued franchises or Certificates of Public Convenience will be allowed in the new terminals in Davao City.

The new transport terminals will provide amenities such as free drinking stations and separate comfort rooms for male, female, persons with disabilities, and a diaper-changing booth.

The ordinance also indicated all public utility buses (PUBs) with destinations outside the city will have to load or unload their passengers at terminals in Catalunan Pequeño for southbound route; Dumoy or Puan areas for south and north Cotabato-Davao route; and Panacan, Buhangin, and Bajada areas for northbound route.

The ordinance seeks to decongest the Davao City Overland Transport Terminal; provide new transport accessibility; and to generate more revenue for the city.

The bus and van operators will have a choice of their own satellite terminals.

They, however, are expected to comply with the necessary requirements required by local and national laws. (LHC)
