Pet Kind of Love: Muffin

Pet Kind of Love: Muffin

Pet owner: Nigel Alinsug

Pet name: Muffin (aka: muff-muff, fat pig)

Pet breed: Peruvian Guinea Pig

“Muffin gets along with anyone or anything. She’s cool with whatever activities or whoever holds her. I have lots of pets aside from Muffin and I often let her play with them so they’d get along no matter what species they are. When my cats and dogs first got acquainted they were on defensive mode but not muff-muff, she just smells them and cuddles right after. I placed my cat inside her cage and watch them carefully, but they got along fine and played with each other. I let them be and the next thing I knew they were all cuddled up and fast asleep. I guess there’s still hope for Tom and Jerry if they give each other a chance.”

What do you like most about your pet?

“She’s like me, eats whatever you feed her. Though guinea pigs are naturally chewing machines, Muffin is like a food processor on steroids. The only time she stops eating is when she’s asleep and even I could see her chewing in her sleep. She listens when you talk to her. Although I think she just stares at anyone who talks but I like to think of it as if she’s listening. She’s like a stuffed toy who breathes; she’s fine however you hold her.”

What tip can you give people who want to be responsible pet owners?

“With guinea pigs, although they are one of the easiest pets to maintain, you should be careful about their diet and exercise. Since they eat a lot, they can get fat really fast and although that might look cute, it doesn’t last long if you keep it that way, if you know what I mean. So keep ‘em healthy.”
