Iloilo needs infrastructures for info technology

ILOILO City government is encouraging local businessmen to put up buildings and similar infrastructures to accommodate the increasing number of information technology businesses in the city.

The city plays host to a number of business process outsourcing (BPO) firms that Treñas considered it a “sunshine industry.” He said the city has established its name as an important site for the information technology-related businesses.

He said the existing infrastructures are not enough to cater the demands of information technology sector.

The latest BPO firm to arrive in the city is the Transcom. It is hiring 1,000 call center agents this year.

Ayala corp. is also set to open up an IT Park within this year following the significant investments made by Megaworld Corp., which is also establishing an IT Park at its acquired property at the old airport in Mandurriao district.

Meanwhile, a coal-fired power plant that would provide the power needs of the BPO industry is scheduled for commissioning before end of 2010, Treñas said. (LCP)
