Firm to switch butane canisters with safer cylinders in program

THE Philippine Eco-gas Producer Cooperative (PEPC) said it will replace four butane canisters with a refillable welded stainless steel cylinder under a switching program.

The company announced this during its formal product launch yesterday at the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists’ (CFBJ) general assembly.

Fe Potestas, PEPC board member, said they intend to increase the number of cylinder users come December.

Potestas said they will start selling the cylinders, which cost P250, in Cebu next month. A refill will only cost P35.

“Kining sa PEPC, mao man ni ang una nga mobaligya sa Pilipinas, kini gyud ang paliton sa katawhan imbes atong butane canisters. Ilisan na nila suma aning cylinders sa Philippine Eco-gas. It’s a safe alternative (The PEPC will be the one to sell them in the Philippines, instead of the butane canisters),” said Engr. Saul Gonzalez, Visayas Field Officer director of the Department of Energy.

Sheila May Zenith, PEPC Gas consultant, said they will start the switching program as soon as possible.

Zenith said the P250 only serves as a deposit. HBL
