2nd bridge viaduct closed for repair

STARTING today, Marcelo Fernan Bridge’s viaduct on the Lapu-Lapu City side will be closed for a four-day repair.

As traffic congestion is expected in the area, some people noticed the lack of information dissemination on the part of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), except for a tarpaulin announcing the rehabilitation project.

City Traffic Management System (CTMS) chief Mario Napule said traffic enforcers will be assigned on the bridge.

“The DPWH will place traffic signs because it’s their mandate. CTMS will manage the traffic,” Napule said.

Napule said motorists going to Lapu-Lapu City can still use the bridge but will stay on the lane going to the public market in Barangay Poblacion.

Vehicles going to the airport or the Mactan Export Zone 1 will use the lane going to Barangay Poblacion then make a U-turn on the Pusok-Cemento corner.

Other vehicles going to the airport or Barangay Pusok area may also use the first Mactan-Mandaue Bridge.

“There will be queuing of vehicles going to Lapu-Lapu especially during rush hour,” Napule said.

The DPWH Cebu 6th District was supposed to start the rehabilitation project last month but postponed it upon the request of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza and Steve Dicdican, general manager of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority. FVQ
