Groups commemorate 33rd Escalante massacre

THE commemoration of the Escalante Massacre that occurred on September 20, 1985 has officially begun with its “Lakbayan,” a march of protesters from Sagay City and Toboso to Escalante City, said Michael dela Concepcion, Bayan-Negros secretary-general.

The protesters brought their torches when they arrived at the public plaza of Escalante City is timed at the breaking of the dawn.

The participants of the march came from various progressive organizations and alliances led by Bayan-Negros, which includes families and survivors of the Escalante massacre.

In unison, marchers are shouting for land reform, junking of tax reform law, wage increase, and peace based on social justice.(CNC)
