ONE of the most uncommon Latin versions of expression is qualis pater, talis filia which means like father, like daughter. I said uncommon for often, it is the son's (not the daughter’s) character or behavior that can be expected to resemble that of his father.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio netted a mark of “iron fist” literally, when she hit a court sheriff on July 1, 2011. The mayor did not apologize for her action but maintained she would face the consequences of her “achievement.”
The sheriff was carrying out the demolition order that was issued on June 21 and supposed to be implemented on the 21st of July, giving a 30-day leeway as mandated by Republic Act 7279. The mayor asked the sheriff to delay the demolition for at least two hours as she wants to talk to the people living in the contested property just after visiting with the residents displaced by the flash flood in Matina. The city at that time declared five of its barangays on a state of calamity.
Like her father, Mayor Duterte has the iron fist in a velvet glove. While she looks at the welfare of her people she also wanted to be sure to implement strictly what is right for her people.
The Sheriff did not file complaint against the mayor but the Sheriffs Confederation of the Philippines Inc. (SCOPHIL) filed a disbarment case, being a lawyer, the action is an assault to the court as an institution.
The case was filed seven years ago and dawdling. Now it is gaining strength with a man who is aspiring to be a Justice of the Supreme Court and maybe because the mid-term election is at hand. What a good timing fella.
Anyhow, I humbly submit my position that Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio stay on as mayor of Davao City, and let other allies run for the mid-term senatorial elections.
Those pushing Mayor Sara are actually having their own agenda that might prove detrimental to the current administration.
We were not born yesterday, and we could clearly see through the actions and the vested interests thereon.
