130,000 jobless in Davao Region

OVER 130,000 who are in their productive years are still jobless in Davao Region.

During the 18th City Council Session last September 18, Davao City Councilor Antoinette Principe-Castrodes said that the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recorded that the region has 95.3 percent employment rate in January 2018 but that there was still the four percent unemployment rate.

“Kini para sa mga bag-ong graduate or kadtong mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) na nibalik sa Davao region (These are fresh graduates and OFWs who have returned to the country),” Principe-Castrodes said.

“The challenge before us is clear, it is that no Dabawenyo must be left jobless,” she said, adding that the population in Davao region is growing, so is the educational, health and employment needs of its people.

Principe-Castrodes added the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) 11 and the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) will conduct a series of job fair on September 20 at Gaisano Mall Toril from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; October 12 at Calinan Gym from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and November 16 at Mintal Gym from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“I urge the public to support the job fair,” Principe-Castrodes said, adding that she also expects various companies, agencies, and private organizations to participate in the job fair.

A total of 25 local employees and 10 overseas employers will be joining the fair on September 20.
