Santiago challenges LGU employees

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Local government employees of City of San Fernando were challenged on September 18 by Mayor Edwin Santiago and Light of Jesus Family motivational speaker Bro. Roberto Cabrillas to "create a commitment to public service."

The challenge was made during the Values Enrichment Course held at Heroes Hall and which was intended for local government employees who are also July, August, and September birthday celebrators.

Santiago told the employees: "We must work not for ourselves solely, but for the betterment of all. That is the real meaning of building relationships while serving the public."

"You would celebrate your birthdays in July, August, or just this month. The others will be celebrating theirs soon. We should always keep in mind that every day is a special day. Let us live in the moment because there is no other special day than today," Santiago said.

For his part, Cabrillas said the city's efforts in molding its employees through events like the values enrichment course became his favorite about the city.

"I've been to several places and found out that only a few ones set an event that is envisioned to educate people with the importance of values, and San Fernando is one of them," Cabrillas said.

Cabrillas also remarked that the keys for government officials and employees to survive a call while doing public service are the Filipino values and traits such as the spirit of "bayanihan," friendship, and resilience.

Meanwhile, City Human Resource Development Officer Rachelle Yusi said the course "will help the employees be more equipped with their functions and duties in their respective offices in the government."
