CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Most of the classes in schools near the Pampanga River remain suspended as of Thursday, September 20, due to slow to recede floodwaters brought about by combined accumulated rainwater, high level and overflowing of the river.

In San Simon town, classes in all levels both public and private in the villages of San Pedro, San Juan, Sta. Cruz, San Nicolas, San Isidro and San Miguel remain suspended due 1.5 feet to five feet of floods.

Classes in all levels in both public and private schools in the Poblacion area in Candaba town that include Barangay Pasig, Buas, Pescadores, San Agustin, Mandasig, Bambang, Sto. Rosario, Pansinao, Gulap, Lanang, and Paralaya as floodwaters remained as high as 12.5 feet as of Thursday, September 20.

The situation is similar in San Luis town, where classes in schools in nine barangays -- Sto. Tomas, Sta. Rita, Sta. Cruz Pambilog, Sta. Cruz Poblacion, Sta. Catalina, San Juan, San Nicolas, Sta. Monica, and San Agustin -- remain suspended because of two feet of floodwaters.

Meanwhile, classes in the coastal town of Macabebe, particularly in barangays Candelaria, Sto. Rosario, Sta. Lugarda, San Isidro, San Gabriel, San Jose and Telacsan, were still suspended Thursday, and have been intermittent since the rainy season came last July.

Based on the record of the Pampanga Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, there are still a total of 59 Pampanga barangays that are still submerged in floodwaters as of Thursday.

Villages in the towns of Apalit, San Simon, San Luis, Minalin, Candaba, Masantol, and Macabebe, which are all located along the Pampanga River banks, are considered the catch basin of floodwaters from the upstream part of Central Luzon.
