Tinaga is new Task Force Botagoy head

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia designated Martin Tinaga as the new head of Task Force Botagoy following the retirement of Rex Juplo.

Tinaga, a regular employee assigned at the City Veterinary Office, said he received a memorandum from Leonardia in June, but he only assumed his post in July after the completion of his training at the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) in Iloilo City.

“It’s one of the requirements [training] before to assume as the new head of Task Force Botagoy to ensure the meat offered for sale to the public are healthy and sale for human consumption,” he said.

He added they are now monitoring the illegal slaughtering in the various public market to penalize the erring vendors.

The City Council had earlier approved a resolution requesting Leonardia to reconstitute and reorganize the Task Force Botagoy to ensure that City Ordinance No. 459 is effectively and efficiently implemented.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Bartolome Orola, chairperson of the committee on markets and slaughterhouse.

Orola said it is imperative to reconstitute and reorganize the Task Force to see to it that the meat offered for sale to the public are healthy, wholesome, and sale for human consumption.

He said he will hold a meeting with the new head of Task Force Botagoy next week along with the members of the task force, City Veterinarian Dr. Maria Agueda dela Torre and the Bacolod City Police Office.

Orola disclosed that the task force should intensify their campaign against illegal slaughtering in various public markets. (MAP)
