528 more voters registered in Bacolod

A TOTAL of 528 additional voters were registered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Bacolod City during the satellite voter registration at the City Mall in Barangay Mandalagan on Wednesday, September 19.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Thursday, September 20, it’s a good result they had a positive response from the residents of Barangays Mandalagan and Bata.

Comelec catered the regular applications for new registration, transfer and corrections of entry.

“We chose City Mall because we were not able to conduct satellite voter registrations in the said barangay. We send them a letter and they were also happy on it,” Majarucon-Sia said.

She said of 528 registrants, most of them are from Barangay Mandalagan.

In 2016 elections, Comelec registered a total 294,000 voters and they have a total of 12,000 registrants who are subject for Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing on October 25.

“We still have to review our records to determine the deceased voters and those who applied for the transfer. Maybe for 2019 elections, we could hit the 300,000 voters,” Majarucon-Sia said.

She said they also received several applications for transfer coming various cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental.

Majarucon-Sia pointed out the Comelec will not extend the voters registration as it is scheduled to end on September 29.

“We only have seven days left and it will not be extended,” she said.

The Comelec office is closed today as they will hold a satellite voter registration at the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ)-Male Dormitory in Barangay Handumanan.

Majarucon-Sia said their office will be open on Saturday and will accept voter registration until September 29.

Last month, Comelec also registered about 38 inmates of MBDJ-Female Dormitory in Barangay Handumanan.
