Public told: Stay calm, vigilant amid threats

NATIONAL Capital Region Police Office Director Guillermo Eleazar urged the public on Friday, September 21, to stay calm and vigilant amid threats going around social media as the country commemorates the 46th anniversary of martial law declaration.

“The PNP leadership, particularly the National Capital Region Police Office, would like to solicit the public’s cooperation to stay calm and vigilant and not to believe the post or comments of netizens on the social media especially those that may cause fear and panic,” he said.

“I have directed all district directors concerned to directly supervise the patrol on the stretch of the highway from Monumento in Caloocan to Taft Avenue in Pasay as well as to ensure the visibility of policemen along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa),” he added.

Eleazar made the statement when asked for a comment on the Facebook post of blogger Drew Olivar who said: “Ayyy, nakakatakot naman magrally sa Edsa, kasi may kumakalat na baka maulit daw ‘yung pagbomba kagaya ng Plaza Miranda!! Kung ako sa inyo hindi na ako pupunta!”

Olivar’s post has gained negative comments from some netizens who said he was spreading bomb jokes, which is an illegal act.

In another post, Olivar clarified that he was indeed talking about the threat against the event based on what he saw on social media.
