Racing through the toughest terrains in Cebu

ORGANIZING an escapade that entailed adventure for the 4x4 community in the Visayas and Mindanao, the Jeep Owners Club of Cebu—in coordination with the Jeep Club Philippines—organized the first-ever “Cebu Eco-Trail 4×4 Challenge” last Sept. 16 to 18.

“The Cebu Eco-Trail 4x4 Challenge” is a three-day race that gives the ultimate off-road adventure for four-wheel enthusiasts and their vehicles across various brands and models.

Teams were required to have two rigs for the driver and co-driver each. Each rig had a GPS tracker and hand-held frequency radio. The contestants were set to drive through the tough natural terrain while enjoying the scenic views of Cebu’s mountains. The competition had three legs, which covered four cities and three municipalities.

The first leg kicked off at the Ayala Heights grounds going to Barangay Lusaran and Tagamacan, followed by the second leg from Biga Pit in Toledo City going to Mananga River and back to Ayala Heights. The final leg was from Asturias going to Danasan Eco Park in Danao City, and back to Ayala Heights.

The competition committee recorded the finishing times for each team. The winning team was determined by its total accumulated time after the three legs. A plaque, special prizes and P75,000 were given to the winning team from the sponsors.

The last day had an off-road course at Danasan, which was opened to other competitors who were not able to join the entire course. The group also has another off-road challenge planned for January 2019, in keeping with the Sinulog festivities.
