Mendoza: It’s looking good

THE Pacquiao-Mayweather Part 2 seems to be gaining some traction.

Both camps are loudly boasting there would be a fight.

“The fight is on,” Manny Pacquiao told Dyan Castillejo in a TV interview.

This, even as Bob Arum, who promoted the Pacquiao-Mayweather Part 1, has said he was not part of the rematch. Tired? Or Pacquiao wants him out?

Arum and Pacquiao parted ways in 2017 after being together since 2006. They were a tandem that produced the most lucrative fights ever in history.

Who can top Arum’s Pacquiao-Mayweather Part 1 that earned almost $600 million, with Mayweather grossing no less than $200 million and Pacquiao $150 million?

What an irony, the top-grossing fight of all time also absorbing the tag as the “Laughing Stock of the Century” for its utter lack of thrill and drama.

Yes, Mayweather won the dullest 12-round fight ever held not only in year 2015, but in the last 10 years as well.

It was also a circus that featured Pacquiao as a handicapped, concealing an injured shoulder when he climbed the ring.

He didn’t back off as that could have meant aborting the multi-million dollar bout abruptly?

At times, money makes meaningful men meaningless.

And while Mayweather would win unanimously, it amounted to nothing.

How could one lose to a PWD? Now 41, Mayweather’s vaunted speed has become suspect.

At 39, Pacquiao’s sharpness has become suspect.

Mayweather is 50-0; his 49th “win” was against Pacquiao.

Pacquiao is 60-7-2 (win-loss-draw; 39 KOs); he won his last fight by knockout this year.

Should their Part 2 materialize, Pacquiao must win to make their tango 1-1.

That’d ensure Pacquiao’s fourth trilogy.

It’d also pave the way for the blockbuster fight of all time—between the sport’s most famous senior citizens.

Any objection?

Good luck to my bosom buddy, Evelyn “EQ” Quinsay of Apo Golf Club, in her quest for outstanding honors in the PAL Ladies Interclub in Palos Verdes, Davao City, where the nation’s most distinguished parbusters have been tangling annually the last 13 years.
