HOW hard can it be to shift to digital? For entrepreneur Griffith Salomon, owner of Kawaii Cafe which targets both the Filipino and Japanese community, digitization is vital.

“It’s doable because we’re trying to cater to as many customers as we can especially for the Japanese community and the Filipinos. It’s one way of reaching faster, I think double or triple the time that we are doing right now,” he told SunStar Cebu.

Globe Telecom on Thursday presented its Digital 2.0 plan to Visayas-based business owners to help them shift to digital.

“Digital transformation is more than just using the latest technology. We want to share digital capabilities that can help boost business growth in one of the leading regions in the country,” Glenn Estrella, Globe senior vice president for digital business, said.

Globe Labs developed web-based platforms that provide SMS, voice, chat, and mobile loading business solutions.

Businesses can automate SMS campaigns with business solutions, engage customers through interactive call-outs, build their own chatbot, and disburse prepaid mobile credits.

“I’m seeing that with Digital 2.0, the leap of technology using the social media and applications makes it faster,” Salomon said.

Asked whether customer information being recorded will be against their privacy, Mara Garcia, product manager of Globe Labs, assured that everything is done with the users’ consent.

“When we get customer’s info, we don’t really force it on them. We only ask for their data so we could give them better service,” she said.

On Wednesday, Globe Business, along with Amazon Web Services and Trustwave, launched new tools and solutions that will help the journey of services towards digitization run smoothly.

“The needs of the clients are evolving,” said Albert de Larrazabal, Globe Telecom chief commercial officer.

With AWS and Trustwave, he said entrepreneurs and business organizations are assured of enhanced equipment and intensified cybersecurity.

Levi Lopez, senior director of Mobile and Broadband Program Management Office, Network Technical Group, Globe Telecom, said that for a business to provide the best customer and digital experience, it must have an enhanced company data network.

Lopez highlighted its enhanced and upgraded wireless network and established cable networks, which enables businesses to interconnect its branches.

It also features fast deployment, agility and the ability of the user to monitor performance, applications, usage and traffic of applications.

“It’s part of our goal to provide business value and address the needs of our customers,” said Lopez.

Lopez also said that they are capitalizing their network in the Visayas and Mindanao since they have seen a high growth in traffic.

To take advantage of these new technologies, Marlon Cruz, Trustwave country director, said that cybersecurity must also be intensified because as technology gets innovative and more complex, security becomes a critical part of the equation.

“Cybersecurity becomes the convergence zones when talking about cloud, when talking about applications,” said Cruz.

Cruz explained that before, it took three months to detect a threat. With Trustwave’s new innovations, the vulnerability and threats of the network can be detected in just an hour.

With this new innovation, it enables the user to complete incident reports and respond whenever there is an attack to the system.

It can also give the user the visibility of the global threats through their “ethical hackers.” “Who catches a thief? It is a thief who catches a thief. That is what ethical hackers do. We are here to augment whatever the gaps within your organization,” Cruz explained.

These tools, according to Larrazabal, are for all types of businesses, from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to big companies.

“We always invest in things that make your business more efficient,” Larrazabal said. JOB / Jerra Mae Librea, USJ-R Intern
