P200M for Agdao market modernization ready

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has allocated P200 million for the modernization project of the Agdao Public Market.

Davao City Council committee chair on games and amusement and government enterprises and privatization Edgar Ibuyan Jr. said that they needed a total of P740 million to proceed with the project so the implementation will be pushed through “early” next year.

“Actually the MOA signing between Davao City Government and the DA is already done, but then, the implementing agency is the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH),” Ibuyan said during an interview with SunStar Davao on September 19.

“Naa na tay plano sa palengke na pagahimuon, hopefully within the year ma-bid na siya (We already have the plan on the project, hopefully we can proceed to the bidding),” he said, adding that the bidding of the project will be before the end of September.

Ibuyan also revealed the concerns of the vendors in the public market such as the possibility of stall rates increase once the modernization project is completed.

However, he allayed the worries of the vendors saying that if there is an increase in the rates it would only be minimal.

“Kanang existing rate nila karon, depende man gud sa stall maong dili pareha ang rate. Ang concern nila karon is kung ma-modernized ba daw, dili ba magtaas ang rate (The existing rates differ. Their concern is the possibility of higher stall rates due to the modernization),” Ibuyan said.

The market will be converted into a three-storey building, which will have portions with air-conditioned offices of the City Economic Enterprises and the City Environment and Natural Resources.
