IT HAPPENED 46 years ago but many can still vividly recount the horrors of that era. An era where many claim was the time democracy died. Together with the thousands of Filipinos who fought the government, is 1972 Martial Law a thing of the past? Or a new one is emerging?

Yesterday marked another commemoration of the declaration and it was received with demonstrations from the different parts of the country.

In Davao City, several hundreds of protesters converged at Freedom Park in Roxas Avenue to show air their grievances towards the government and to the existing Martial Law in Mindanao.

Among the protesters are religious leaders, peasants, and students.

The group claimed that more than 80 individuals from different progressive groups were slain in the Southern Mindanao alone by the government to silence them.

But does the Martial Law of 72’ differ in today’s Martial Law in Mindanao?

Have the people had it enough in fighting for the cause fought for more than four decades?

Martial Law in Mindanao is scheduled to last until December 31 this year but progressive groups claim that the government tries to stretch the implementation of the Martial Law.

After their convergence in Roxas, the protesters marched towards Rizal Park but were barred from entering the area and staged their rally along Anda Street.
