Cauguiran to invite rivals to forge peaceful elections

CLARK FREEPORT -- Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President Alexander Cauguiran, who recently bared plans to run for mayor in Angeles City, said that he will invite other mayoralty candidates to forge an agreement for peaceful elections during the 2019 polls.

Cauguiran bared this when he met with officers and members of the Pampanga Press Club at Park Inn by Radisson Clark last Wednesday.

"We will invite them over a cup of coffee to discuss what we can do to ensure peaceful and meaningful campaigning," Cauguiran said.

A peaceful [election campaign] means candidates must exercise leadership over their respective leaders and supporters, according to him. "To refrain from conducting themselves and engaging in physical conflict."

Cauguiran said he will also appeal to his fellow mayoralty candidates to "raise the level of political discourse."

"What should be discussed is what happened in Angeles City in the past, what is happening now and what would to it in the future given the certainty of development in Clark Freeport. We should also give actions and discuss beneficial programs," he said.

With the help of media, the candidates may inform the people of Angeles their respective platform of governments and plans for the city, according to Cauguiran.

He expressed optimism that people in other places will know that politics in Angeles City now have a new image.

"That is the kind of politics mayoralty aspirants in Angeles City can implement and execute in our agreement. That I can guarantee you that I can implement and execute leadership over and above my leaders and supporters," Cauguiran said.

Other mayoratly aspirants in the city include incumbent Vice-Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno and Councilor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Jr.
