BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, who chairs the Regional Development and Peace and Order Council, urged a fair investigation for mayors who allegedly left their jurisdiction during the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong.
During the weekly Ugnayang Panglunsod, Domogan reiterated the need for the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to validate such allegations.
“I have read in the papers that allegedly there are some mayors from the Cordillera region that were not present during the height of Ompong. I have still to receive a report to that effect and I do not know where they got the information, said Domogan.
Earlier, DILG started to conduct an investigation on the possible negligence of at least 10 mayors who were allegedly missing in action as Typhoon Ompong battered their areas.
This, after DILG spokesperson and assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya said the fact-finding team who will conduct the investigation.

“My concern here is that for them to correctly validate the information specially that the 2019 Elections is coming. This might be used as a politically motivated action against them but if it is proven that they were absent during that time, then we cannot do anything,” Domogan stated.
The DILG is presently doing a review of the performance of the mayors in the region and are determining if there were indeed absent during the typhoon came.
Local chief executives who will be found negligent will be held accountable.
Aside from the mayor’s from the Cordillera, mayors from Cagayan Valley will also be investigated.
