What families, rescuers need

SOME private and public groups have launched donation drives to help at least 600 families displaced by a landslide in the City of Naga.

Incident Commander Carmelino Cruz Jr. said the families need hygiene kits, clothing, blankets, generator sets, water stations, tents, water tankers and other basic necessities. Evacuees also need food, utensils, towels and sleeping mats. Rescuers at the site, too, are calling for the public to extend additional equipment needed for their operation.

Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office chief Nagiel Bañacia said they are in need of N-95 masks.

“Baho na kaayo ang ground zero (Ground zero is too stinky already). Please drop your donations at City Hall customer service center,” Bañacia wrote on Facebook.

The Cebu Provincial Government has set up a drop-off point in front of the Capitol Building for those who wish to donate goods for the evacuees currently taking shelter at the Enan Chiong Activity Center in Barangay South Poblacion, at the Apo Cement gym and at the Barangay Naalad gym.

For those who want to directly bring their donations to Naga, they are advised to coordinate with Brenda Gabato, City Social Welfare and Development head, through 0915-351-0523.

Ayala Center Cebu is accepting donations at the Concierge, while the Barangay Council of Inayawan has set up a drop-off center in front of its barangay hall.

The Junior Chamber International Cebu has also put drop-off stations at the following: some Nuat Thai branches, Insular Square, Cebu Grand Hotel, Pitlane, University of Cebu Maritime Education and Training Center, University of San Carlos campuses, and the main campuses of the University of Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos and University of Cebu.
