AROUND 180 vendors at Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City were obliged to remove their illegal structures in a clearing operation on Friday, September 21.

Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, cluster head on markets, said the market vendors voluntarily removed their illegal structures because, in the previous meetings, they already agreed to follow the rules.

He said those who are occupying along Daniel Ramos Street are allowed to occupy one meter from the gutter while those who are within the Burgos Public Market should occupy five meters from the gutter.

The clearing operation was conducted by a team of the City Legal Enforcement Team (CLO), Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) and Market Coordinating and Monitoring Task Force (MCMF).

“It was already agreed during our meeting with the vendors, barangay officials with the representatives of CLO, BTAO, and MCMF to follow our rules so they voluntarily removed and repaired their stalls especially at Daniel Ramos Street,” he added.

Pineda noted that it’s part of the city’s program to regulate the vendors at Burgos public market, Central Market and Libertad Market.

Pineda said the vendors along Daniel Ramos Street should not exceed in one meter from the gutter so that it will be passable for motor vehicles, especially for the fire trucks and garbage trucks.

He said BTAO will implement a one-way traffic scheme in the area.

The market vendors were also told to ensure the cleanliness within their stalls to ensure the health safety of their customers.

“It’s the obligation of the vendors to clean and beautify their stalls because they agreed to it during our meetings,” Pineda said.

He said the MCMF will intensify its monitoring to regulate the erring vendors in three big public markets in Bacolod.
