NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson thanked the Japanese sponsors Tetsuro Kanno, Sasaki Tamotsu, Shigeki Ikoshi, Ken Shiina and Fumio Mizumo from Shiina Newspaper Company in Chiba, Japan for choosing the province as the beneficiary of the newspaper delivery scholarship program during a courtesy call at the Vice Governor’s Office this week.

Five out of 31 applicants namely, Richelle Galvez of Murcia, Kean Anthony Pausa of Himamaylan City, Jose Gene Villanueva Jr. of Binalbagan, Marlyn Mae Junsay of Silay and Razel Apolinario of Sagay, were chosen for the scholarship program.

Lacson said he hopes those who are already studying and working in Japan will be encouraged to continue beyond the two-year contract.

He also related to the Japanese sponsors that when he visited Japan once, he was very impressed with the Japanese people. He said that “not everybody speaks English but if you ask for directions, they will go out of their way to really help you.”

The scholars will study in Japan for two years while working part-time for the newspaper company. (PR)
