International Coastal Clean-up set on September 23

ALL is set for the conduct of the Coastal Clean-up Day on Sunday, September 23, in Zamboanga City.

Rodrigo Pagotaisidro, public service officer of the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), the assembly for the activity is along R.T. Lim Boulevard at 5 a.m. the activity ends at 10 a.m.

The International Coastal Clean-up Day is a global event that gathers people on beaches, coasts, rivers, waterways and even underwater divesites to remove trashes.

Pagotaisidro said all villages, government and non-government agencies/offices, educational institutions, uniformed personnel, civil society organizations and people’s organizations among others are enjoined to actively participate in the activity and be a part in the grand mission to save and protect the environment.

He said the clean-up will cover all coastal and mangrove areas from the village of Labuan in the west coast to the city proper and from the village of Sangali in the east coast to the city proper.

The OCENR officer said the village councils will spearhead the activities in their respective barangays.

The conduct of the cleanup in this city was originally scheduled on September 16 but was moved to September 23 due to the onslaught of Typhoon “Ompong.” (SunStar Philippines)
