City shells out P3.2M for tanods’ uniforms; project part of city's war on drugs

TO improve the peace and order situation in the community, around 1,600 watchmen in all 80 barangays of Cebu City will soon patrol their areas wearing a uniform.

The City Council passed a measure last week authorizing the City Budget Office to charge P3.2 million to the City Government’s Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. funds for the procurement of the uniforms.

In his approved resolution, Councilor Franklyn Ong said his measure seeks to prevent substance abuse by making barangay peacekeeping officers more recognizable.

“There is a need to provide these personnel with two sets of uniform as wearing their uniform provides a psychological deterrent on would-be offenders aside from signifying their role and function, thus, helping improve the peace and order situation in the City of Cebu,” he said.

The project was proposed by the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention to help the barangays carry out their tasks in the government’s fight against illegal drugs. RTF
