Pagasa: Another tropical storm to enter PAR but will spare Cebu

ALTHOUGH the low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical storm, the weather condition in Cebu is expected to improve today.

Engineer Al Quiblat, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) Mactan senior weather specialist, said that the scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms experienced in the past days were because of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), and not because of the LPA.

“It’s just the effect of the ITCZ, but it’s already improving today, Sept. 23. There will be lesser chances of rain,” he said in an interview yesterday.

Tropical depression Paeng (international name Trami), Quiblat said, is expected to enter PAR today and may affect northern Luzon.

“It is 2,000 kilometers away from Central Luzon. It is headed towards the direction of Taiwan and Batanes area,” he said.

Pagasa said tropical storm Paeng has winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 65 kph. It is moving north-northwest at 10 kph.

Although its track will not pass through Central Visayas, Quiblat advised the public to remain vigilant and continue to monitor weather updates. RTF
