Dumanjug mayor, 2 others face complaint before DILG

TWO months after the Court of Appeals (CA) overturned his dismissal, Dumanjug Mayor Guntrano “Gungun” Gica is facing two other complaints filed by his rival, former town mayor Nelson Garcia.

Garcia filed a complaint against Gica as well as Vice Mayor Rainero Asentista and first Councilor Cesar Baricuatro before the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7 for usurpation of authority and abandonment of post.

Garcia claimed that Gica has resumed his post even though the CA has not rendered a final decision yet reversing the anti-graft office’s dismissal order.

Garcia also accused Asentista, who served as acting mayor, and Baricuatro, who served as acting vice mayor, of abandonment of posts for returning to their original positions in defiance of the DILG’s order.

Aside from the DILG complaint, Garcia also sued Gica, then municipal administrator Danilo Macoy and property custodian Visitacion Abelo before the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas for malversation of public funds and conduct unbecoming for accepting P198,000 worth of closed-circuit television cameras, which were disallowed by the Commission on Audit.

Sought for comment, Gica said: “E-ampo lang nako siya (I will just pray for him).” JKV
