EXTENDING a helping hand, SM Foundation Inc. through Operation Tulong Express served as one of the responders to flood-stricken kabalens of the City of San Fernando by giving immediate assistance to communities in the form of relief goods and conduct of a medical mission last Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

As the super Typhoon “Ompong” (Mankhut) has come and gone concentrating in the northern part of the region, SM Foundation Inc. through Operation Tulong Express in partnership with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) sent out volunteers from SM City San Fernando Downtown to distribute “Kalinga” packs which consist of bottled mineral water, rice, ready-to-eat meals, instant noodles and detergent bar soaps to affected areas in Barangay Sta. Lucia and San Pedro Cutud benefiting 800 affected families.

Immediately after the relief operation was the “Gamot para sa Kapwa” medical mission to flood-stricken Fernandinos in Barangay San Nicolas, Sta. Lucia, and San Pedro Cutud, a community immersion serving almost a thousand beneficiaries held at the San Nicolas Covered Court.

Together with the City Health Office headed by Dr. Eloisa Aquino, volunteer doctors and City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) units of the City of San Fernando, the medical mission caravan provided medical consultations, laboratory services such as blood pressure check-up, blood sugar testing and monitoring, height and weight check-up, diagnostic services such as X-ray, Electro Cardiograph (ECG), urinalysis and free medicines.

The SM Foundation Operation Tulong Express was spearheaded by SM City San Fernando Downtown Mall Manager Lana Erroba, in partnership with the local government of the City of San Fernando.
