Lip-smacking good

WE’VE been driving past it a few times already in our search for a new food place, but we never really gave it much attention thinking it’s a bar or a coffeeshop or anything else aside from a restaurant with lip-smacking food.

The name is Beso, it’s across Philippine Women’s College at the University Avenue at Juna Subdivision in Matina.

Its cool interior lights make it appear like it’s a cozy bar from the outside, add to that the name, then you think: Dates.

That was until I chanced on Ken Angeles of the Yellow Fin Tuna Restaurant fame one afternoon and he said that they have a new restaurant named Beso.

Now, if you know Yellow Fin, then you should have an idea what kind of food await – tummy-filling, lip-smacking, finger-licking good food.

Thus, there we were – Dengdeng and I, drooling and agonizing over their menu because there was just the two of us. Calls and texts for help didn’t mine anything positive. Friends were either busy or out of town.

We decided to just order two of the most enticing best: “Sinigang na lechon” and “Pork and Beans”. Why pork and beans? Because the menu describes it to be “lechon kawali, mongo, fried rice and egg”. Yes, drool.

Both were just fantastic. You’d want to order an extra cup of rice had not Deng already had halo-halo and some food with friends just an hour or so ago, and I had just had some snacks as well.

But, ponder on these – Pinakbet at Lechon Kawali, Pinaputok na Bangus, Greaseless Chicken, Homemade Corned Beef, Chicken Galantina described asd stuffed chicken roll, queso de bola, gravy and rice, oyster sisig, crispy salmon belly... and the list goes on and on.

Head on out, and make sure you are starving and with the whole family.

Remember, it’s on the same road as Women’s and the name is Beso.
