DAVAO Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) feted its six members who reaped honors in the Asia Pacific Masters Games 2018 tenpin bowling competition in Penang, Malaysia recently.

The simple recognition rites were held Saturday evening, September 22, at the SM Lanang Premier Bowling Center before the weekly qualifying bowling tournament.

Datba president Ramsey Tancontian commended Crystal Christine Chavez, Tans Bernas, Christopher James Young, Mayor Al Langkuno, Manny Nierra and Absalon "Lologol" Serrano Jr., known as Datba's 'Magnificent 6', for bringing home a total of 13 gold medals, seven silvers and one bronze in the quadrennial event participated by over 120 bowlers from six countries in Asia.

"They sacrificed for their country, for Davao City and for Datba of course. This is not just a simple ceremony but an invitation and manifestation that our organization is ready to play anywhere. Let's continue our camaraderie and friendship for everyone," the president said.

Tancontian also assured that Datba will have its entry in the 2020 Asia Pacific Masters Games but cannot promise to replicate or surpass what the magnificent six produced.

Joshua Disuacido then capped the recognition with an inspiring closing remark.

Meanwhile, Ivan Awid won the Datba weekly qualifying bowling tournament. He struck for a total of 618 pinfalls after three games to annex the P1,200 champion’s prize and earn a slot to the monthly finals over Ronald Martin and John Tamondong who placed second and third, respectively.

Martin rolled 603 pins while Tamondong amassed 595 pinfalls.

The Datba weekly qualifying will resume Tuesday in the same venue.
