MASTER Benigno “Ekin” Caniga lauded the performance of Team Cebu City Muay Thai in the recently concluded 2018 Batang Pinoy in Baguio City.

Out of 12 athletes, 11 Muay Thai fighters snaggged medals in the tournament.

“It was an excellent performance by team Cebu City. The Muay Thai team really showed that it can compete with the other LGUs,” said Caniga, the Muay Thai Association of the Philippines-Cebu president. “They were amazed with the Cebuano fighters because they were knocking out their opponents.”

Cebu City finished fourth in the Muay Thai event behind host Baguio, Quezon City and Sta. Rosa City after bagging three gold medals, four silvers and four bronzes.

Jemarie Josh Ybañez, Ulysses Martines and Andrie Lanz Caniga won gold medals. The silver medalists are Glen Algono, Mark Renxel Alforque, Joshien Dumaran and Alexander Zion Melecio. The bronze medalists are Ken Ramoso, Edgar Caburnay, Ken Calvin Caburnay and John Francis Almario.

“They have been training for just two months and come to the gym every Saturday because they are busy with their school,” said Caniga. “They were really impressive in the Batang Pinoy this year.” (EKA)
